So what does it take to be a Superbod?
Let’s ask Van Victor Leano, 24, and Theresa Fenger, 21, this year’s Century Tuna Superbods who beat 20 other equally super bodies in a close competition held recently in Boracay.
Van stands 6-foot flat; weighs 165 lbs.; and wears medium/large-size shirt, size-32 briefs and size-11 shoes. A Business Administration (major in Computer Application) from De La Salle College of St. Benilde, Van manages the family-owned Vibang’s Delights restaurant located along Abel Nosce St. corner Aventine Hill in Las Pinas City. He’s a Capricorn (born Jan. 2, 1985).
A music student who writes songs and models (commercial and ramp), Theresa stands 5′8″; weighs 117 lbs.; measures 33-24.5-35; and wears small-medium-size shirts and size-8 shoes. Born and raised in Terrace, Canada (“It’s a small town where I learned strong values”), Theresa (an only child) was a Canadian Idol finalist in 2007. She’s a Virgo (born on Sept. 22, 1987).
What extra preparation did you make for the competition?
Van: Nothing special. For one month before the competition, my diet consisted mostly of chicken breast without the skin, pasta, sweet potato (camote) but no rice. And, of course, a lot of Century Tuna (chunks and water). It wasn’t a deprivation diet. I didn’t take any supplements. For workout, I did crunches for my abs. Also nothing special. I never deprive myself. Once a week, for my “cheat” day, I eat anything. After that, back to my strict diet.
Theresa: I made sure that I limited my diet to Century Tuna and chicken breast without the skin, usually inasal. I cooked it myself. I also ate lots of vegetables and fruits. Not too much rice. I made sure I was active.
What’s usually for breakfast?
Van: That’s it…Century Tuna, pasta, cereals, fruits. Heavy breakfast talaga since it’s the first meal for the day. For lunch, more pasta and, since I help manage our restaurant, anything but in moderation. I avoid oily foods. For dinner, almost the same but very light. Since I take six small meals per day, I don’t take snacks.
Theresa: For breakfast, oatmeal, cereals and yoghurt. For lunch, chicken breast inasal and all-wheat bread. For dinner, mostly vegetables, more chicken breast inasal. For snacks, one apple is enough.
How much water do you take per day?
Van: A lot. Usually warm water kasi kapag malamig nakakataba.
Theresa: Eight to 10 glasses. Because I sing, it’s important for me to drink as much water as I can, so I bring along a big bottle of water.
Vitamins or supplements?
Van: Vitamin C and Centrum.
What’s your regular workout, aside from crunches?
Van: I go to the gym three times a week. For warm-up, I do the treadmill for 30 minutes and do other exercises. I also jog. You know, it’s even harder to maintain your body, so you really have to work hard at it.
Theresa: I do cardio exercises. I lift light weights. I try to work out five times a week. But before the competition, I worked out every day. I do a lot of walking and running. I also play badminton.
What part of your body needs improvement?
Van: My calves. Ang hirap palakihin!
Theresa: I’m happy as I am. As long as I stay active, I’m fine.
What part is most vulnerable?
Van: My tummy.
Theresa: My head.
Favorite part of your body?
Van: My shoulders. Broad kasi, eh.
Theresa: My eyes - and my smile. Your smile is part of your body, isn’t it?
How much sleep do you get per night?
Van: I try to get eight hours.
Theresa: Seven to eight hours. By 10:30 p.m., I’m already asleep.
Are you a pillow person?
Van: Yes. I sleep with a few. I can’t sleep without hugging a pillow.
Theresa: Just one. I don’t like my neck up so high so I sleep on a flat pillow.
Favorite sleep wear?
Van: Boxers and sando.
Theresa: Because it’s so hot in the Philippines, I just wear shorts and a tank top.
Do you snore?
Van: Only when I’m tired. Malakas daw!
Theresa: They said that I do a little bit.
Do you talk in your sleep?
Van: Sometimes daw. Bigla na lang nagsasalita. Hehehehe!
Theresa: I wouldn’t know!
Do you sleepwalk?
Van: I hope not!
Theresa: Not that I know of.
What’s the last thing that you do before you go to sleep?
Van: Pray.
Theresa: Pray. I thank God for the good things that happen to me during the day and ask Him for guidance.
And the first thing that you do when you wake up?
Van: Stretch!
Theresa: Stretch!
How do you cope with stress?
Van: Managing a restaurant is very stressful. To relax, I go nature-tripping. I usually drive to Tagaytay and visit the Pink Sisters; getting there is relaxing in itself. The other day, I did wake-boarding. Or I go to the spa for a full-body treatment twice a month.
Theresa: I get a manicure and a pedicure. Or I get a body scrub or a massage. Watch a movie.
What’s your outlook in life?
Van: I’m a positive thinker.
Theresa: I’m a happy person. I make the most of every day. I learn from both the good and the bad.
Do you manage to have a nightlife?
Van: I do naman, usually after our restaurant closes at 10:30 p.m. I hang out with friends at their homes. Sometimes, we drop by at The Embassy.
Theresa: None. I don’t go out.
And your love life?
Van: Satisfactory. I have a girlfriend. Three years na kami.
Theresa: Wala naman po!
Your sex life?
Van: Okay naman. Active!

Using only body language, how would you make a woman/man know that you admire her/him?
Van: I try to melt her with a sticky look. Hehehehe!
