Bench, the country’s top retailer, celebrated its 20^th anniversary with what else, a glitzy, daunting, mind-blowing display of celebrity bulges last September 11. Are they trying to compete with Cosmopolitan’s Bachelor Bash? Let’s see how Vince Lopez captured all the fuss.

A billboard in Guadalupe (along EDSA) is probably something they never thought they’ll have in their lifetime. But yesterday, Bench Body’s Rica Peralejo unveiled what Ron Morales referred to as a dream come true: an oversized billboard of him and 5 other finalists in their half-naked magnificence.

Be Bench: The Model Search will come to its end on 9/11 – in time of the Twin Tower bombing’s 6^th anniversary. The finals night will not only feature the six finalists (the crowd favorite Carlo Guevarra, the ABS-CBN management favorite Haroun Morales, new Reyville’s favorite John Uy, the stunning Regine Angeles, the bubbly Michelle Carbonell and the snobbish-looking Kristine Nieto) but also the other Bench celebrity endorsers. From the sound of it, the night is going to be one hell of an event.

Although 18-year-old Kerbie Zamora was complimented by the judges of Be Bench: The Model Search for a tv commercial test by exuding confidence while wearing an underwear, the votes were not enough to keep him famous.

Carlo Guevarra, who received negative remarks from the judges for looking awkward in the test, was also in the bottom 2 but he was saved by the text votes leaving Kerbie missing the final 6. Ron Morales was on top of the leaderboard by 9.57.

Two contestants from the Be Bench: The Model Search were included in this year’s Cosmopolitan 69 hunks and they are Carlo Guevarra of Pasay and the “Sam Milby” lookalike John Uy.

 Per Martin Grogaard was eliminated from Be Bench: The Model Search last night. The speculation was right. I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel that the elimination was somewhat ‘too soon’ for him. He obviously didn’t meet what the Style Council and the management expected him to deliver.

Rafael Rosell appeared on the show as the finalists’ fitness coach and they were also trained to walk the runway with poise, posture and composure – the episode’s redundant focal point. The finalists’ self-confidence was tested for real as they ramp their way to SM North EDSA ’s The Block … with actual audience. A set of poise-wrecking occurrences were set up to distract each model during the second and third walks – booing audience, tight shoes and jeans, mismatched heels, ridiculous hairpiece, oversized pants, among others.

Overall, last night’s episode was just okay. HaHa. Sorry, I’m not feeling well today. À la prochaine.

I heard that John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo are the newest addition to the ever-expanding family of Bench. As a matter of fact, a launching festivity was held yesterday in TriNoma (or TriNoMa, Triangle North Mall, Triangle North of Manila, whichever you prefer) where the remaining finalists of Be Bench: The Model Search were also present. I can see that Carlo Guevarra is everybody’s favorite. I even showed support earlier but after knowing that he’s short, short, short in height, I think I’m not sure now. I lost my appetite already. Let me cheer for Martin instead. No, not Martin, he’s going to be eliminated later. HaHaHa.

Harry Laurel aka Harry Chua, easily became the crowd favorite earlier tonight at the Cruise show of the Men of Provoq. The youngest in the peeled pack at 20 years, Harry’s baptism of fire as the newest member of the glam stripteasers of Viva Entertainment went amazingly fine. Of course, it went very well since he was in thongs throughout the stark extravaganza, together with the boys. The Man in the Lighthouse

For those who regularly check out this blog to get some updates of Be Bench: The Model Search, particularly about last night’s episode, I am very sorry but I, too, missed that chapter. In case you’re wondering why, I’ve been into an extensive exploration on the nature of the “gay world” which understandably took a whole night of just sitting, scrutinizing, be on the “hot seat” for an hour or so, engaging in a totally outrageous conversation, witnessing a live “gay freak versus bunch of sluts” confrontation over a not-even-handsome young gold-digger, among other extreme realities and frills. (No promises this time, I’ll just try to get into details soon.)

Watching last night’s episode of Be Bench: The Model Search was quite a boring experience. The main focus was to bring out the best projection from the remaining challengers with the help of some of the authorities in fashion modeling in the country. The finalists were expected to be in their best angle once photographed by Jun De Leon, the official photographer. But before the photo op, all models underwent a rigid makeover.

What was mostly done was a hair makeover. The girls’ long tresses were cut short which turned out to be a very difficult task for them except perhaps for Precious who was so game to face up the challenge. A similar effort was performed to the guys minus the drama. Per Martin Grogaard of Cebu and one female contestant were also asked to get rid of their braces as it was thought to be a distraction. In addition, in an attempt to spice up the show, the Filipinos nosiness and love for real drama was endured as each model exposed their cheesy life and love stories.

Carlo Guevarra, the self-confessed ugly fat ass who transformed into a male symbol of beauty, got the highest overall score for male. It was goodbye to Joey Beato of Laguna and Rachel Tan of Makati last night. That’s it, folks! I hope it’s going to be more interesting next week.

I just wanted to clarify that the “self-confessed fat ass” is not Carlo Guevarra but Per Martin Grogaard of Cebu. But Carlo really got the highest score last night. So there. And oh, I forgot to mention that host Piolo Pascual looks really baduy (tasteless) last night from the dreadlocks to the red inside shirt and the gray jacket. He looked like he was groomed by a scruffy, cheerless old high school teacher. On the contrary, Kris Aquino looked really great last night.
